Oak Tree are thrilled to be holding an art exhibition to showcase various works created by incredibly talented residents at our Goodna village.
The exhibition is being held from September 17th to 29th at St Albans Anglican Church Hall on Alice Street in Goodna, and open for viewing on weekdays from 11am – 3pm, and weekends from 12pm to 4pm.
Officially opened on September 17th by Milton Dick, Federal MP and Speaker of the House of Representatives, the collection features artists including Paul Snow, Heather Williams, Mark Neumann, and Carita Murrell, as well as beautifully hand-crafted items also created by our residents.
At the official opening, a touching moment occurred when Milton Dick purchased one of Heather’s artworks – a stunning Diamond Dotz painting of an owl for a colleague who is an avid owl enthusiast! This heartfelt gesture brought immense joy to Heather, making the occasion even more special.
At Oak Tree, our low maintenance lifestyle offers residents newfound freedom and time to embrace the things that enrich their lives – whether that’s simply relaxing, spending quality time with friends and family, travelling the world, or rediscovering hobbies. For our resident artists featured at the upcoming exhibition, art is something they’ve always been passionate about but have embraced more than ever in their retirement chapter!
“I’ve been painting for about 20 years. My style is contemporary and consists of landscapes and abstract designs. Painting takes me on a journey and is an expression of my ideas and emotions,” says Mark Neumann, one of the featured artists at the exhibition.
For Carita Murrell, art provides peace and an escape from the day-to-day happenings of life. “Through art I see things more vividly than many other people do. I see more details. I see beauty where there is ugliness. Whilst creating my works, I can forget about the world’s turmoil. I can escape and it’s peaceful. I love creating!”
For resident Paul Snow, art was always something he was interested in, however his life offered so many other rewards that he didn’t have the opportunity to pursue it until he retired. He hasn’t stopped painting and sketching since! “I am an artist. This means I live in a fantasy world with unrealistic expectations, but when I look around me, I see beauty in everything,” says Paul.
Resident Heather Williams believes patience is the key to her creative process. “When it comes to art, there are no special skills needed apart from patience. In my works, I use coloured dots to creative depth and bring a 2-dimensional appearance to the work.”
What’s most special about holding an exhibition is the opportunity to showcase a variety of artistic styles and mediums. Each of our featured artists bring their own unique perspective, ensuring the collection offers something that everyone will enjoy and resonate with.
“Each of our designs are so varied, so there’s really something for everyone,” says Heather.
